• Buses, trams/street cars (Strassenbahn) and underground trains (U-Bahn) and light-rail (S-Bahn) in Düsseldorf are run by the Rheinbahn.
• You can buy tickets in most vehicles, at ticket machines at some stations, or via the Rheinbahn app. One ticket will get you from your start point to your destination, even if you need to change from one train or bus to another. For frequent public-transport users, monthly passes are available and are good value.
• There is a €60 fine for travelling without a valid ticket.
• The U79 (U-bahn) runs from the south of Düsseldorf to ISD and on to Kaiserswerth, Wittlaer, and Duisburg. The stops closest to ISD are Alte Landstrasse and Kittelbachstrasse.
• The 760 bus runs from Wittlaer, through Kaiserswerth to Lohausen and Ratingen. The stop closest to ISD is Paul-Klee-Weg.

Düsseldorf is a great place to cycle. There are many cycle paths in the city, with more being added. There are also public cylce paths through fields, and along the Rhine.
 

• Always cycle in the same direction as the traffic; it is illegal to cycle on the left.
• Helmets are not legally required, but are a good idea.
• It is illegal to cycle when drunk (over the legal blood alcohol limit).
• It is illegal to use your mobile phone while cycling.
• Make sure you have a bell and front and back lights that work.
• Invest in a good bike lock that cannot easily be cut. And always lock your bike!

• Everyone in the vehicle must wear a seatbelt.
• Children under 150 cm tall must use a child car seat.
• The speed limit in the city is 50km/hour (except where otherwise marked).
• The speed limit around schools and kindergartens is 30km/hour during certain times.
• The blood alcohol limit is 0.5%; exceeding this limit will lead to heavy fines and a suspended license.
• Only hands-free mobile phone use is permitted while driving.
• All cars must carry a first-aid kit, a hazard triangle, and a hi-vis safety vest for each person travelling in the vehicle.
• Driving rules vary from country to country; make sure you are familiar with the German Rode Code.
• ADAC is the organisation that offers roadside assistance, driver safety training and other services to its members, similar to the 'Automobile Association' in some countries.

INTERNATIONAL 
(NECIS)

Our NECIS* teams compete against other international schools from across Northern Europe. Every season, teams take part in a series of 'friendly' competitions which lead to an end-of-season championship tournament. NECIS offers three distinct seasons of sport for students in grades 5 to 12.

STATE-WIDE 
(CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS)

ISD's school championship teams compete against other schools in Nordrhein Westfalen. Teams compete in a series of one-day mini tournaments, which take place during the school day. The winners of each one-day round usually advance on to another round, until a state champion is determined. The state champion then plays in the national championships, held each year in Berlin.

CITY-WIDE 
(ISD SPORTVEREIN)

Our ISD Sportverein teams compete locally, and are open to students from both ISD and the local community. Teams compete against other clubs (Vereine) from the greater Düsseldorf region. Training is typically twice a week, and games are played on most weekends throughout the school year.
