Students can have fun, make new friends, learn new skills and develop new interests with our broad range of extra-curricular activities.
Activities are taught by ISD teachers and community members, with the majority taking place on campus at the end of the school day.
Some, such as choir and band practice, take place in the mornings, while tennis lessons are run during the weekends, off campus. There's something for parents too, with a range of community activities taking place during the day and in evenings and weekends.
ACTIVITIES AT ISD
Below you'll find examples of past and current after-school activities at ISD (those available in the current academic year are in bold).
PERFORMING ARTS
The Performing Arts at ISD - Theatre, Music, and Sound & Lights - provide exciting opportunities for students to learn and develop through collaboratively creating, playing, improvising, and performing.
The Performing Arts Programme at ISD gives every student a voice regardless of what language they speak, because creativity and self-expression have no barriers here.

THEATRE
Our students really do experience the full theatrical gamut: professional sound and lights, original set designs, exquisite costumes lovingly sewn by parent volunteers. From theatre of antiquity, to Shakespeare, Brecht, and Broadway musicals, no production is too ambitious for our dedicated team of students, teachers, and parent volunteers.

In addition to offering a full IB Theatre Arts curriculum within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the IB Diploma Programme (DP), we also produce four large-scale productions each school year; two middle school performances and two upper school performances.
We have two theatre spaces on our senior campus. The main stage (the Dahms theatre) seats 350, and our small, black box theatre offers flexible seating and staging options for more intimate productions. |
MUSIC
Music embraces all of ISD’s core values, and thanks to our truly diverse international community, we are fortunate to be able to incorporate music from all over the world into our programmes. Throughout the school year, the music department puts on a variety of concerts and performances including:
- the ISD winter concert series;
- grade 6 MYP performance concert;
- grade 7 MYP performance concert;
- ISD jazz evening;
- ISD spring concert series;
- International Fest;
- World Citizenship Night.

We also enjoy a long-standing relationship with the Association of Music in International Schools (AMIS), giving students the opportunity to travel to orchestra, band and choral festivals across Europe and perform with other students from around the world.
Music at ISD is growing in all areas, and by allowing students to create and perform music from around the world, we all benefit from a deeper cultural understanding of each other. As the writer, Kahlil Gibran, once wrote: ‘Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife'. |
SOUND & LIGHTS
The ISD Sound and Lights team provides technical support during events, such as setting up and managing speakers, or programme lighting for theatre productions and live events.

Our members have the opportunity to learn about and operate industry-grade equipment. With the help of the dedicated Sound and Lights team, community events are always a great success!
Across the school year we operate over 40 events such as the International Fest, theatre performances, school assemblies, and concerts. |
DUKE OF EDINBURGH
Launched by the Duke of Edinburgh 60 years ago, the Award has grown to become one of the world’s leading youth achievement programmes.
Aimed at equipping young people for life, the Award challenges participants based on their own abilities, and pushes them to find their limits and recognise their achievements.
Now in its third year at ISD, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (DoE) has seen more than 60 students progress through the Bronze and Silver levels, with trips taking place in the Eifel region, and elsewhere.
Available to students in grades 9-11.
