THE IB CURRICULUM
“The IB aspires to help schools develop well-rounded students with character: students who can respond to challenges with optimism and an open-mind; students confident in their own identities; students who make ethical decisions; students who join with others in celebrating our common humanity; students who are prepared to apply what they learn in real world, complex and unpredictable situations.”Education For a Better World
The International Baccalaureate Organisation
The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme is the most widely used programme in international schools, and the IB Diploma is highly regarded by universities around the world.
ISD has a long-standing history with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), and was one of the first schools in the world to offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP) to its students back in 1976. Fewer than 70 schools worldwide were authorised by the IBO at that time. Today, there are more than 4,000 IB World Schools.
Obtaining IB World School status involves an initial authorisation process in each programme, followed by regular five year reviews.
At ISD, we are proud of the achievement of our IB students. They consistently reach scores above the worldwide averages, both in individual subjects and for the Diploma overall. In 2022, our students’ average diploma score is 35 points, with the top third of our students achieving an average of 41 points. (The world average for 2022 was 32 points.)
The International School of Düsseldorf is an IB World School, certified to offer all three IB programmes:
