World Citizenship Projects
ISD has been involved in supporting a partner school in Tanzania for over 25 years. Project Tanzania sees a team of our students and teachers visiting the Moringe Sokoine secondary school in Monduli every June to engage in a cultural exchange, education and financial support programme with the school community there. This is one of our World Citizenship Projects – ISD students travelling abroad to engage in meaningful service in support of needy communities.
Students must go through an application process to be accepted onto one of these projects and are expected to be engaged with raising awareness and raising funds for the projects throughout the year and beyond. World Citizenship Night is an annual entertainment event to celebrate these service projects with our community.
Currently there are four other World Citizenship Projects available to students over 16. Each of these projects is partnered with a local NGO to ensure the service is worthwhile:
- Habitat for Humanity – manual work building houses in poor communities in Eastern Europe
- Project Nepal – supporting rural communities in Nepal, in particular contributing to rebuilding programmes after recent earthquakes
- World Volunteers Laos -cultural exchange and sustainable building project in a remote part of the country.
- Project Croatia – students as citizen scientists collect data and contribute to nature conservation
